Primary Responsibilities

About the role: The Senior Chemical Technician is responsible for monitoring and maintaining production process operations at a chemical manufacturing site. This role includes operating and maintaining process unit equipment by measuring, recording, and controlling operating parameters, as well as diagnosing and resolving system or component faults in accordance with established procedures and safety standards. Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the Senior Chemical Technician also participates in equipment commissioning activities to ensure a safe and stable startup and ongoing operation of the plant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as strainer cleaning, filter/screen changes, topping up lubricants/coolants, and connecting hoses.
- Conduct equipment checks, startups, and shutdowns for pumps, compressors, and other process equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Isolate piping systems to support plant startup, shutdown, product changes, and troubleshooting efforts.
- Monitor and control process variables via DCS systems to ensure plant quality and stability.
- Adjust process parameters under the guidance of supervisors to optimize performance.
- Assist in troubleshooting process and equipment issues to recommend improvements.
- Serve as acting Supervisor in the absence of the Shift Supervisor.
- Safely collect process samples and perform in-process testing in a lab environment to ensure product quality.
- Participate in commissioning and decommissioning of process equipment.
- Perform emergency shutdowns and respond to plant emergencies.
- Handle, blend, and reprocess non-conforming and off-spec products following quality procedures.
- Prepare equipment for maintenance, ensuring proper Lockout, Tagout, and Tryout protocols are followed.
- Lead on-the-job training (OJT) for junior technicians.
- Prepare, mix, and dilute chemicals as required for production processes.
- Conduct inter-tank chemical and product transfers in line with quality standards.
- Take part in emergency response drills and activities.
- Maintain housekeeping and cleanliness in assigned areas.
- Review process and product quality data, including DCS trends and lab analysis results.
- Adhere to and promote all safety, health, environmental, and quality policies and procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to plant safety, environment, and quality programs.
