Primary Responsibilities:
About the role: The Chemical Technician is responsible for monitoring and maintaining production process operations at a new manufacturing site. This role involves overseeing equipment in the process units by measuring, recording, and controlling operating parameters. The technician is also expected to identify and resolve system and component issues according to established procedures and specifications, ensuring safe and efficient operation of all units and equipment.
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the Chemical Technician will undergo training and development in relevant production technologies delivered by experienced team members prior to the plant’s startup. The role also includes participating in commissioning activities to support a safe and stable startup of the new facility.
Responsibilities:
- Perform minor maintenance tasks such as cleaning strainers, changing filters/screens, topping up coolants/lubricants, and making hose connections.
- Conduct checks, start-up, and shutdown operations on process equipment like pumps and compressors in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures or Work Instructions.
- Isolate piping systems for plant start-up, shutdowns, product grade changes, and troubleshooting.
- Adjust process parameters to optimize operations under the supervision of a Supervisor.
- Collect process samples safely from designated sampling points.
- Operate in a laboratory setting to conduct in-process sample testing for quality assurance.
- Assist with the commissioning and decommissioning of process equipment.
- Perform emergency shutdown procedures on process systems.
- Handle and blend non-conforming or off-specification products responsibly.
- Prepare equipment for maintenance activities, ensuring all Lockout, Tagout, and Tryout procedures are followed.
- Prepare chemicals for use in operations, including mixing and dilution.
- Execute inter-tank transfers of chemicals and products based on quality protocols.
- Participate in emergency response activities and regular safety drills.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards in assigned work areas.
- Review final product and process analytical data, as well as DCS conditions and trends.
- Follow all safety and environmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Support continuous improvement of Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality programs.
- NITEC or Diploma in Chemical Process Technology
- At least 3 years’ working experience as Process Technician in a chemical industry
