About the Company

Our client is an established Singapore-based environmental and industrial services company providing waste management and resource recovery solutions to commercial and industrial customers.

The organisation is looking for an experienced General Manager to take overall responsibility for the operational, commercial and financial performance of its waste management business. This is a senior leadership position with significant responsibility for business growth, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance and team performance.

About the Role

The General Manager will oversee the end-to-end operations of the waste management facility, ensuring safe, efficient and environmentally responsible waste collection, processing, recycling and disposal.

You will lead multiple functions across operations, production, sales, marketing and customer service while driving business performance and profitability. The role combines operational leadership, commercial management, financial oversight and environmental compliance.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop long-term strategies, identify opportunities for growth and cost optimisation, establish performance KPIs and build a strong culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the waste management facility.
• Ensure efficient waste collection, transportation, processing, recycling and disposal processes.
• Develop and implement long-term business strategies, policies and operational procedures.
• Identify opportunities for business growth, cost reduction and revenue generation.
• Establish, monitor and improve operational and financial KPIs.
• Manage budgets, control operating expenses and optimise resource allocation.
• Monitor overall financial performance and implement cost-effective measures.
• Prepare financial reports, budgets and forecasts for senior management.
• Lead initiatives to improve operational efficiency, productivity and profitability.
• Ensure all waste handling and disposal activities comply with applicable environmental regulations and requirements.
• Implement best practices relating to waste reduction, recycling, sustainability and environmental management.
• Maintain high standards of customer satisfaction and address customer concerns promptly.
• Develop and maintain a strong safety-first culture across the organisation.
• Conduct regular operational inspections, audits and quality control reviews.
• Investigate incidents, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Lead and manage department heads and operational teams.
• Establish performance objectives and conduct regular performance reviews.
• Ensure effective coordination between production, operations, sales, marketing and customer service functions.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
• Undertake other strategic or operational assignments as required by senior management.

About the Candidate

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Business Administration or a related discipline. A Master’s degree would be advantageous.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the waste management industry, including at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership position.
• Strong understanding of waste management operations, disposal methods, recycling practices and environmental compliance.
• Demonstrated experience managing facility operations and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, cost control and financial performance management.
• Proven ability to develop and execute business strategies and drive revenue growth.
• Strong understanding of relevant environmental, safety and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to make sound business decisions.
• Able to interpret operational and financial data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple departments and priorities.
• Proactive, adaptable and comfortable making decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Professional certification in waste management, environmental management or a related field would be advantageous.
