About the Company

Our client is an established Singapore-based engineering and environmental services company supporting customers across the industrial, offshore and marine sectors. The company provides specialised solutions for complex industrial processes, including wastewater treatment and environmental management.

The organisation is expanding its technical capabilities and is looking for an experienced WWTP Process Engineer to support the operation and optimisation of industrial and hazardous wastewater treatment systems.

About the Role

The WWTP Process Engineer will be responsible for the operation, monitoring, optimisation and continuous improvement of wastewater treatment processes within a plant-based environment.

The role requires strong hands-on process engineering expertise, particularly in industrial or hazardous wastewater treatment. You will provide technical judgement, troubleshoot process issues, optimise operating parameters and ensure the plant consistently meets discharge, operational and EHS requirements.

You will work closely with operations and laboratory teams while also supporting technical evaluations, process development, audits and regulatory inspections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor and optimise industrial and hazardous wastewater treatment systems.
  • Manage treatment processes including:
    • Physico-chemical treatment such as Lamella Clarifier, DAF and CAF.
    • Advanced oxidation processes including Fenton oxidation, electrochemical oxidation, catalytic ozonation and UV photocatalytic oxidation.
    • Biological treatment systems including UASB, CSTR, activated sludge and MBR.
    • Tertiary and polishing systems including MBR and RO.
  • Adjust process parameters according to changes in wastewater characteristics including COD, BOD, SS, oil & grease and toxicity.
  • Evaluate incoming wastewater and waste streams and determine appropriate treatment processes and pretreatment requirements.
  • Design and conduct bench-scale testing, including jar tests and pilot trials.
  • Provide technical recommendations for operational and commercial decisions.
  • Troubleshoot issues including effluent non-compliance, biological inhibition, membrane fouling and process instability.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Prepare and maintain SOPs, operating parameters and technical reports.
  • Guide technicians and laboratory personnel on sampling, testing and process adjustments.
  • Participate in government inspections, customer audits and technical discussions.
  • Ensure safe operation of chemical treatment, advanced oxidation and biological treatment systems.
  • Participate in risk assessments and Management of Change reviews.

About the Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Biotechnology or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial wastewater or hazardous wastewater treatment.
  • Strong hands-on experience operating and optimising wastewater treatment systems.
  • Experience with advanced oxidation processes, such as Fenton, electrochemical, ozone or UV treatment, is highly advantageous.
  • Experience with biological treatment systems, particularly anaerobic/aerobic processes and MBR, is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of wastewater quality parameters and their impact on treatment performance.
  • Able to independently conduct process evaluation, troubleshooting and operating parameter optimisation.
  • Competent in bench-scale test design, process trials and technical data analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with operations, laboratory and management teams.
  • Strong sense of responsibility with the ability to make sound technical decisions during abnormal operating conditions.
  • Comfortable working in a plant-based, hands-on operational environment.
